As a Nutritionist & GAPS Practitioner, I know how powerful food can be in transforming your health. One of my absolute favourite foods to eat every single day for gut healing and nourishment is ghee, also known as clarified butter.

Ghee isn’t just delicious…it’s deeply healing. It’s been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine to support digestion, nourish the body, and even promote mental clarity.

What I personally love about it is how gentle and grounding it feels. It's the kind of food that wraps your gut in a warm hug.

Another bonus?

Ghee is lactose- and casein-free, since the milk solids are removed during the clarification process. That means even those who are sensitive to dairy often find they tolerate ghee really well, which makes it such a valuable ally for anyone healing their gut or dealing with food sensitivities.

Plus, ghee is incredibly versatile. You can cook with it, melt it over veggies, stir it into your meat stock, or even use it as a spread. It’s rich, golden, and packed with flavour, without the inflammatory compounds found in many cooking oils.

You can often find ghee at your local health food store, but honestly, homemade is best…plus it’s super easy to make! Here’s a simple recipe to get you started:

Homemade Ghee Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (454g) unsalted, grass-fed butter (organic)

Instructions:

  1. Place the butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat.

  2. Let it melt slowly. Once melted, it will start to bubble and separate into three layers: foam on top, golden liquid in the middle, and milk solids on the bottom.

  3. Continue simmering gently (don’t stir!). Skim off the foam from the top with a spoon if you like, and watch for the milk solids to lightly brown, this is when the ghee takes on that nutty, toasty aroma.

  4. Once golden and fragrant (usually about 15–20 minutes), remove from heat.

  5. Strain the ghee through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer into a clean, dry glass jar.

  6. Let cool, then cover and store at room temperature (it’s shelf stable for a few months!) or in the fridge if you prefer.

Homemade ghee is incredibly nourishing, budget-friendly, and gives you full control over the quality of the butter you’re using.

 

5. My Favourite Lifestyle Hack: Grounding (Earthing) by Spending Time Barefoot on Natural Surfaces

Sometimes, small lifestyle changes can make the biggest impact.

One hack I swear by is grounding, also known as earthing, which involves spending time barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, sand, or soil.

Why It’s My Favourite

I love this hack because it’s simple, free, and incredibly effective at reconnecting you with nature.

Grounding helps reduce inflammation, promotes relaxation, and can even improve sleep quality. Incorporating it into my routine has helped me feel more balanced and grounded, both mentally and physically.

It’s like a reset button for my energy and mood!
